Full Mouth Dental X-RaysWhy Do I Need X-rays Again?

Whether you are visiting our office for a specific dental problem you’re experiencing or just stopping by for a routine checkup, we may notify you that it’s time to update your X-rays. You probably won’t need new X-rays every visit; however, if significant changes have occurred or you’re experiencing any pain or discomfort, new dental X-rays help us diagnose issues and pinpoint the problems.

Are my old X-rays good enough?

They might be, but it all depends on why we need the X-rays and exactly how long it’s been since the last set. We must have the most up-to-date information regarding your health, so we may need to verify that more extensive problems are not present before proceeding with treatment.

If it’s your first time visiting our office and you have a current set of X-rays from a previous dental office, we’ll be more than happy to utilize those images. However, please be aware that other practices will not send the X-rays without your permission. (Since they are your private medical records.) Therefore it is up to you to contact your old dentist and transfer the X-rays to our office.

Are dental X-rays safe?

Dental X-rays are extremely safe. In fact, compared with other varieties used in medicine, they require much less radiation. That’s because teeth are so close to the surface that we only need minimal intensity to see inside. We also, of course, use lead vests to reduce radiation exposure, and we promise not to take more than is necessary.

Rest assured that your health and well-being are always our number one priority!
